NU7T - Steve a Reno QRP Profile

I am Steve, NU7T. As a grade school kid I built "fox hole" receivers from wire, toilet paper rolls, safety pin and razor blade. My buddies and I tried Morse Code, but it was way too slow; a really impractical mode. My pride as a kid was a homebrew two-tube receiver.

As an adult, I began having problems with my eyes. An appearance before a blind Judge, who happened to be a Ham, lit my tubes. I have been radiating ever since.

The biggest thrill has been chasing DX. With my little Mosley TA33 jr warc beam and a vertical 40m loop, 100 watts or less, I worked 305 DXCC entities in the first five years. A hundred countries and all states have been worked QRP with a simple wire antenna.

My wife, Mimi, encouraged me to try portable operation. With help from Reno QRP members, I have had a blast in the field. There lies a very different Hamming experience.

I have also enjoyed the 160m contests and other assorted QRP sprints and challenges without becoming a hard core contester. Down the log, dudes and dudettes.
